William Nelson Mwakalasya is currently serving as the country coordinator for Tanzania in the African Leadership and Management Training for Impact in Malaria Eradication (ALAMIME) project. He is an Environmental Toxicologist and Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health. William holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health Sciences (BSc EHS) from Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) (2010), an MSc in Public Health and Preventive Medicine from Chongqing Medical University, China (2020), and is currently pursuing a PhD at MUHAS.
Before joining the Department, he worked as an Environmental Health Officer and Regional HIV/AIDS Coordinator for the Pwani region for four years. During his time there, he also led the coordination of a CDC-funded project on HIV/AIDS titled: “Accountable and Coordinated HIV/AIDS Services by Regional Health Management Teams in the United Republic of Tanzania under The President’s Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR)” for five years.
He has contributed as a Research Scientist to two projects: Clean Air Engineering (CArE Homes) (2021-2022), and the Pesticides-Related Health Effects in Africa (PREHEAT Research) project, focusing on “Cancer Mapping in Tanzania – a Retrospective Hospital-based Study” under the funding of the French Embassy – Tanzania. The CArE-Cities and Homes project received funding from the University of Surrey’s Research England under the Global Challenge Research Fund (GCRF) in 2021.
