About The Event

The Role of Community Health Workers in Malaria Prevention, Case Detection and Reporting in Kambia District

Community health workers play an important role in bringing malaria prevention, case detection, and reporting services closer to communities. By working at community level, they can support early identification of suspected malaria cases, promote appropriate care-seeking, provide or facilitate access to malaria services, and contribute to timely reporting of cases to the health system. These activities are particularly important in strengthening community-based malaria control and ensuring that cases are identified and managed promptly.

Join us for a new session of the ALAMIME Alumni Webinar Series as we explore the role of community health workers in malaria prevention, case detection, and reporting in Kambia District, Sierra Leone. The session will examine how community health workers contribute to malaria prevention and case detection at community level, as well as their role in reporting malaria cases and supporting the link between communities and the formal health system.

The session will provide an opportunity to explore practical experiences from Kambia District and discuss how community health workers can contribute to strengthening malaria surveillance and case management. Participants will also learn about approaches for improving community-level identification and reporting of malaria cases, promoting timely access to appropriate care, and strengthening collaboration between community health workers and health facilities.

The webinar will further highlight practical lessons from malaria programme implementation in Sierra Leone, with a focus on how community-based approaches can support malaria prevention, early case detection, and timely reporting. By examining experiences from Kambia District, the session will contribute to discussions on strengthening community participation and improving malaria control efforts at local level.
