Burden of Malaria Among Pregnant Women in Karene District, Sierra Leone

Malaria in pregnancy remains a significant public health challenge, particularly in high-transmission settings where it contributes to adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes. Pregnant women are especially vulnerable to malaria infections, which can lead to anemia, low birth weight, stillbirth, and increased risk of maternal and infant mortality. Understanding the burden of malaria in specific local contexts is critical for designing targeted interventions and improving maternal health outcomes.

Join us for an engaging session in the ALAMIME Alumni Webinar Series as we explore the burden of malaria among pregnant women in Karene District, Sierra Leone. This webinar will provide insights into the epidemiological trends, risk factors, and health system challenges affecting malaria prevention and control among pregnant women in the district.

Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how routine surveillance data, program implementation strategies, and local health system dynamics influence malaria outcomes in pregnancy. The session will also highlight practical approaches to strengthening antenatal care services, improving uptake of preventive interventions such as intermittent preventive treatment in pregnancy (IPTp), and enhancing monitoring and evaluation efforts to reduce malaria-related complications.

This discussion will be particularly valuable for malaria program managers, maternal and child health practitioners, researchers, and public health professionals committed to improving outcomes for pregnant women in malaria-endemic settings.
