Gains of Mass Insecticide-Treated Net Distribution: Progress Towards Malaria Reduction (2015–2025)

Mass distribution of insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) remains one of the most important malaria prevention strategies, providing communities with effective protection against mosquito bites and contributing significantly to reductions in malaria transmission. Over the past decade, Nigeria has made substantial investments in the large-scale distribution of ITNs, with campaigns aimed at improving household access and promoting consistent use, particularly among populations at greatest risk of malaria.

Join us for another engaging session in the ALAMIME Alumni Webinar Series as we explore the gains, progress, and lessons from mass insecticide-treated net distribution in Nigeria between 2015 and 2025. This webinar will examine the contribution of mass ITN distribution to malaria reduction, while highlighting programme implementation, monitoring and evaluation, supply and distribution systems, and the factors that influence effective coverage and sustained net use.

Participants will gain practical insights into the experiences of Nigeria’s malaria programme, including approaches to monitoring ITN distribution and assessing programme performance, lessons from implementation at subnational level, and opportunities to strengthen future campaigns. The session will also discuss how evidence and data can be used to identify gaps, improve programme planning, and ensure that malaria prevention interventions reach the communities that need them most. By reflecting on a decade of progress, the webinar will highlight opportunities to sustain and build on the gains made toward malaria control and elimination in Nigeria.
