ALAMIME is a capacity-building project.
Participants undergo an equivalent of four weeks of training followed by a practicum. These four weeks equip them with skills in leadership and management, the science and art of malaria, and the use of data for evidence-based decision-making.
The program’s objective is to train malaria program managers and policymakers in nine countries, enhancing their analytical and problem-solving skills, leadership abilities, and capacity to implement evidence-based policies and approaches. This supports the transition from malaria control to elimination

Two years ago, after my boss retired, I was promoted to management from a clinical role without sufficient mentorship. This caused workplace tensions, as some colleagues felt better suited for the position. The ALAMIME program provided essential leadership and management training, enabling me to navigate these challenges effectively.
Through the ALAMIME program, I gained valuable leadership and management skills for malaria eradication. I learned data analysis for decision-making, case study preparation, and multisectoral approaches. This training enhanced my ability to conduct quarterly data analyses, make informed decisions, and contribute effectively to malaria control efforts.
The training exceeded my expectations, enhancing my ability to distinguish between complicated and uncomplicated malaria cases and their appropriate treatments. Recognizing the often-overlooked role of the health system in eradication efforts within my country, I am now empowered to implement changes and influence policy effectively.
I was struck by the distinction between leadership and management. As Head of the Provincial Health Division, embracing both roles allowed me to unite colleagues in sharing a vision for our organization's optimal functioning. The training emphasized placing people at the center of our efforts, fostering a shared vision crucial for effective malaria eradication.
The training deepened my understanding of data's role in monitoring malaria programs, teaching evidence-based decision-making, and effective advocacy. It also offered insights into gender equity. Overall, it enhanced my leadership and management skills, highlighting the importance of leadership development and institutional growth in malaria eradication efforts.
